Victoria Azarenka Earns No. 1 WTA Rankings, Maria Sharapova Moves Up To No. 3 Despite Loss

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Victoria Azeranka's win over Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open final on Saturday elevated her to No. 1 and also forced a shift in the women's top 10 rankings.

The WTA said Saturday that rankings which will take effect Monday show Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova remaining at No. 2, followed by Sharapova, who moves up one spot to third.

Caroline Wozniacki, who held the No. 1 ranking for nearly 67 weeks before losing in the quarterfinals here to Kim Clijsters, drops to fourth.

U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur, who lost in the first round at Melbourne Park, moves up one spot to fifth despite the poor result at her home major, while Agnieszka Radwanska is a career-high No. 6.
