Afghan Parliament summoned Interior and Finance ministers on Sunday to answer their questions in connection with what some MPs called incompetence of the ministries.

Some MPs believed that the ministers should have been disqualified, but they weren't because some MPs were allegedly bribed and given bullet-proof vehicles.

Some also accused the Parliament of having been turned into a business place for the MPs.

The ministers should have talked about security situation in the country as well as budget related issues.

Some MPs accused the executive committee of the Parliament of supporting the ministers.

"It' was pre-planned by administrative committee to prevent MPs to ask questions, especially those who have evidences against the ministers," Abdul Rahim Ayoubi, representative of Kandahar in parliament, said.

"As an MP, I don't expect anything from this parliament," Representative of Kunar province in Parliament, Wajma Sapi said. "They are only here for their persoanl business."

Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Hazrat Omer Zakhilwal, said that major achievements of the ministry have been to increase government incomes.

He also said that nearly 5 million Afghanis was saved from the normal budget this year.

The Interior Minister said that there has been a major decrease in civilian casualties.

He blamed foreign troops for the death of 8 Afghan children in Kapisa province.

"We are still investigating, if our police is guilty in the incident, they will be punished." Interior Minister Besmellah Mohammadi told MPs.

Mr Mohammadi also called the role of Afghan local police very important in maintaining security, citing its success in Baghlan and Paktika provinces.

He said the local police was established based on a Presidential decree with the aim of improving security in different parts of the country.

NEW YORK ? Andrew Lincoln, who stars as Sheriff Rick Grimes in "The Walking Dead," says he loves a secret.

That's partly why Lincoln has told no one the answer to what's become the biggest mystery of the AMC zombie drama: What scientist Dr. Jenner whispered to Rick in the season one finale.

"Not even my wife knows what he whispered to me," Lincoln said in an interview Wednesday.

Lincoln said that in keeping the secret he feels he is being true to his character in the show.

"He chooses not to tell people so why would I tell," Lincoln said of the sheriff.

What was said has only been heard by a handful of people, and the mystery has become the object of intense scrutiny by fans.

Lincoln said he realized just how curious people were when a show editor revealed he had scrolled through hours of show footage and listened in on radio traffic to find the only two takes where the brief remarks were audible. The cast says the contents of the conversation will be revealed this season.

Lincoln, who says the comments are "pivotal" for Rick, hints that the message was not good news.

"This is a scientist who seemingly held all the cards to what this epidemic is about and I do think, you know, you would imagine he would have something of value to say on that matter," Lincoln said. "Well, he chose to kill himself."

The actor also said that Rick and his ragged group of survivors will likely leave the farm where they've taken refuge this season.

"Something happens and they realize very quickly that the farm is not as secure as they may think," he said.

The series continues Sunday at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Doctors scour drug supplies after fake Avastin found (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? A U.S. distributor of phony vials of the widely-used cancer drug Avastin aroused suspicion at doctor's offices as early as July, well before health regulators issued their own warning and sparked new alarm over counterfeit medicines.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said this week it notified 19 oncology practices they had purchased drugs from a supplier not approved by the agency, including a counterfeit version of Roche Holding AG's, Avastin, that did not contain the multibillion-dollar drug's active ingredient, bevacizumab.

The FDA and Roche's Genentech division said on Wednesday they were still investigating how widely the fake medicine was distributed. They do not know how many patients might have been affected, or if anyone was harmed.

Connie Jung of the FDA's Office of Drug Security said it was possible more practices could be involved.

"Clinics need to know who they're buying their medicines from, they need to make sure they're buying them from legitimate sources, licensed sources in the United States," she said.

The FDA said the drugs came from an overseas supplier called Quality Specialty Products, which does business in the United States with a distributor identified as Montana Healthcare Solutions.

Most of the doctors' offices contacted by the FDA are located in southern California, with one practice in Chicago and another in Corpus Christi, Texas. Several said they were scouring their inventories to see if they had any of the fake medicine and would monitor patients for any problems.

An official from one California oncology practice told Reuters it stopped buying drugs from Montana Healthcare in July when it noticed the products were missing a national health code necessary for billing and reimbursement.

"When we called Montana Healthcare to ask for their national health code they gave me the runaround. At that point we ceased all business," said the source, who asked not to be named because they did not have permission to speak to the media.

The practice did not contact the FDA at the time, but received a visit from agency officials a month ago who said they were investigating the supplier and that the medicines were being sourced abroad.

"They came in ... and said in the middle of my waiting room 'we got a problem,'" the official said of the surprise visit. "This story is horrific for me. I want to find out who the heck is doing this."

A list of expensive biotech medicines offered by Montana Healthcare Solutions and obtained by Reuters priced Avastin 400 mg vials for under $1900, compared with the nearly $2400 that Genentech charges in the United States. It listed Avastin under its Turkish brand name Altuzan.

The list offered "lower-priced European alternatives" of products from Amgen Inc, Eli Lilly and Co, Celgene Corp and Novartis AG. The company did not return telephone calls or e-mails seeking comment.

Jung said the FDA encountered a wide variety of fake drugs, from conventional pills to injectable medicines that need to be administered by a doctor. The trend is fueled in part by the high cost of certain medicines, pressuring patients and doctors to seek cheaper alternatives.

The FDA said it first found out about the bogus Avastin in late December after the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency alerted U.S. officials and Roche about the problem. Roche confirmed via testing earlier this week that the Avastin was fake, the FDA said.

The Beverly Hills Cancer Center, one of the 19 practices notified by the FDA, said it was in the process of determining whether it purchased any fake Avastin from Montana Healthcare.

"At the time the Center purchased drugs from MHS, we believed that the drugs were legal and approved and only recently learned from the FDA that some of the drugs may have been counterfeit or unapproved," the center said in a statement.

"The Center has identified no adverse effects for any of its patients who may have received drugs purchased from MHS," it said, adding it had no idea they were coming from overseas.

Genentech said it is monitoring side effect reports for any spike in safety issues that might arise from the fake Avastin.

The bogus Avastin distributed in the United States has several difference in its package and label that should make it easy to spot. For example, the counterfeit says Roche on the packaging and writing on the box is in French rather than English. Roche distributes Avastin outside the United States, but all legitimate Avastin meant for U.S. patients says Genentech.

The South Texas Comprehensive Cancer Centers said it has conducted a preliminary investigation of its records to assist the FDA. Executive Director Benno Kaufmann declined to say whether it did business with Montana Healthcare or whether it had uncovered any counterfeit Avastin in its investigation.

Genentech said it limits the distribution of many of its products and only sells directly to a defined number of fully licensed and contracted wholesalers and specialty distributors.

An expert on counterfeit medicines said clinics buying medicines from overseas or unapproved suppliers was becoming an increasing problem.

"What we've seen is that there are active efforts underway by persons to specifically target clinics and doctors," said Tom Kubic, president of the Pharmaceutical Security Institute, a non-profit, industry-supported organization that collects information on counterfeit medicines.

"We're well beyond the traditional counterfeit medicines we've seen in certain therapeutic categories," Kubic said, citing phony versions of erectile dysfunction drugs such as Pfizer Inc's Viagra.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? House-Senate talks on renewing a payroll tax cut that delivers about $20 a week to the average worker yielded a tentative agreement Tuesday, with lawmakers planning to unveil the pact Wednesday and sending the measure to President Barack Obama as early as this week.

Under the outlines of the emerging agreement, a 2 percentage-point cut in the Social Security payroll tax would be extended through the end of the year, with the nearly $100 billion cost added to the deficit. Jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed would be renewed as well, with the $30 billion cost paid for in part through auctioning broadcast spectrum to wireless companies and requiring federal workers to contribute more toward their pensions.

GOP lawmakers leaving a party meeting said they were told a tentative pact had been reached but said some details could change before the compromise was finalized, probably on Wednesday. They described the session as largely positive, and several predicted the House would approve the deal.

The payroll tax cut and renewing jobless benefits were key planks in Obama's jobs program, which was announced in September. The payroll tax cut benefits 160 million Americans and delivers a tax cut of about $20 a week for a typical worker making $50,000 a year. People making a $100,000 salary would get a $2,000 tax cut.

The deal would not only be a win for Obama but would take the payroll tax fight ? which put Republicans on the defensive ? off the table for the fall election campaign.

"The mood is to get it off the table," freshman Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., said. "We've got to move on to another issue."

"It's a compromise," said Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C., a tea party-backed freshman and one of the bargainers. "We knew we'd be making a compromise."

The agreement also would avert a huge cut in Medicare payments to doctors, financed by cuts elsewhere in the federal health care budget, GOP and Democratic aides said. The cuts include a hitting a "prevention fund" established under Obama's health care law aimed at fighting smoking and obesity.

Aides in both parties said Senate Democrats were rebuffed in an effort to renew a package of expired tax breaks for individuals and businesses, including clean energy tax credits cherished by Democrats and a tax break sought by businesses that purchase new equipment.

Negotiators agreed to reduce the number of weeks of benefits that workers would be eligible to receive if they lose their jobs. The maximum number of weeks of benefits in states with the highest jobless rates would be cut from 99 weeks to 73 weeks by the end of the year, said Josh Drobnyk, an aide to Rep. Sander Levin, D-Mich.

And in a win for the Hispanic community, Republicans would drop a proposal to require that low-income workers who claim a refundable child tax credit be required to have a Social Security number. The proposal was aimed at blocking illegal immigrants from claiming the credit, but the idea created a firestorm among Hispanics who pointed out that many of the children affected by the cutoff are U.S. citizens.

Republicans also were expected to drop a proposal requiring unemployed people to enroll in GED classes to obtain benefits, and a GOP proposal allowing states to employ drug tests as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits would be scrapped as well. But Republicans won a provision requiring jobless people to be more diligent in job searches as a condition of receiving benefits.

The legislation also would extend welfare grants to states.

Tuesday's developments came just a day after GOP leaders announced that they would relent on a demand that the cost of renewing the payroll tax cut be defrayed by spending cuts elsewhere in the budget. That made it significantly easier for negotiators to come up with savings to pay for the remaining items.

Obama weighed in Tuesday, urging Congress to act immediately to renew both the payroll tax cut and jobless benefits for millions of workers who have been out of work for more than six months.

"Just pass this middle-class tax cut. Pass the extension of unemployment insurance," Obama said at a White House appearance. "Do it before it's too late and I will sign it right away."

Democrats in the Senate warned Republicans that they would pay a political price for extending the payroll tax cut while allowing millions of jobless people lose their unemployment benefits.

Republicans acknowledged that the issue had cost them politically. The pact comes less than two months after a fight over a temporary renewal of the tax cut blew up in the faces of House Republicans.

"The plan provides temporary tax relief for American families and takes off the table a false political attack the president and congressional Democrats wanted to use all year long ? that somehow Republicans were standing in the way of a middle class tax cut," a House GOP leadership aide said.

Geneva, OH ? Junior Chantelle Grey, of the Austin Peay women?s track and field team inched closer to the 800-meter school record with a 2:08.41, and a sixth-place finish at the SPIRE Invitational.

In fact, the Missoula, Montana native actually finished second in her heat race prior to the final, leading that race down to the final 100 meters. The sixth-place time in the finals put the Lady Gov standout in the NCAA?s top-50.

?Chantelle ran a terrific race,? head coach Doug Molnar said. ?She executed her race plan perfectly and has set herself up nicely heading into the Ohio Valley Conference championships.?

At the invitation-only event with featured 18 teams from around the United States and Canada, Grey was one of handful of individuals with the opportunity to compete in select events. With nothing to lose and everything to prove, Grey moved herself atop the Ohio Valley Conference?s 800-meter list.

Becoming an OVC champion might be the next goal for the Lady Govs distance runner, but to get there she may have to challenge APSU?s school record ? 2:06.17 ? set by Austin Peay Hall of Famer Sheena Gooding in 2002.

?The important thing is, she showed that she belongs,? Molnar said. ?There?s no doubt that she?s one of the top 800-meter runners in our conference, if not the country after this race. This helps her confidence and puts her in a good place as the indoor season winds down.?

Grey?s race was led by Michigan?s Rebecca Addison at 2:05.24, followed by Rachel Aubry (Guelph) at 2:06.22, Asia Henry (Buffalo) 2:07.06, Frances Dowd (Virginia Tech) 2:07.22 and Molly Malone (Syracuse) 2:07.81.

Despite early reports suggesting an accidental drowning, TMZ reports Whitney Houston?s family have been officially informed the cause of death is drug and alcohol related which, let?s be honest, probably isn?t going to cause any of them to clutch their pearls except maybe Dionne who should?ve seen it coming:

Whitney Houston?s family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials ? the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol ? this according to family sources.
We?re told Coroner?s officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney?s lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned.
Our sources say the family was told Whitney may well have died before her head became submerged.

So now that drowning?s been ruled out, I guess we can let Aquaman off the hook even though he?s still a gill-faced junkie whose half-porpoise son cries each night for a father that?s never home. In the meantime, probably my favorite Whitney story of the past 24 hours, has to be LA Times reporter Gerrick Kennedy who went on TODAY this morning and tried to act like he noticed something ?off? about Whitney hours before her death. Via Mediaite:

Kennedy reported that, ?though Houston greeted people with a warm smile, she appeared disheveled in mismatched clothes and hair that was dripping wet with either sweat or water.?
The visibly bloated singer displayed erratic behavior throughout the afternoon ? flailing her hands frenetically as she spoke to Brandy and Monica, skipping around the ballroom in a child-like fashion and wandering aimlessly about the lobby. It was mentioned by a Grammy staffer that security personnel received calls of the singer doing handstands by the pool.
After leaving rehearsals, Houston returned to the ballroom ? with her teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina in tow ? as camera crews set up for interviews. The singer smelled of alcohol and cigarettes. A Grammy staffer said that during the interviews with Brandy, Monica and Clive, Houston was dancing just off camera to make the singers and Davis laugh. Grammy personnel expressed concern that she?d be caught on camera, and that reporters would write about her behavior.

So basically this guy saw Whitney Houston acting exactly like Whitney Houston hours before her death and that passes for dramatic insight on morning television? Jesus. I get that audience has a median age of 63, but I?m pretty sure most of them already suspected drugs because old people are notoriously racist. But in a cute, hilarious way, so go easy on them.
