Equality Illinois taps former Tribune editor for communications liaison

Equality Illinois, the state?s largest LGBT rights advocacy group, announced the appointed of their first communications?liaison Tuesday.

Chicago native Mitchell Locin, a former White House correspondent and an editor at Chicago Tribune, will assume the role in a move to signal the organization?s efforts to share the challenges they face in expanding LGBT equality, according to a press release.

?Mitch brings to Equality Illinois decades of understanding how the media work and a wealth of contacts in newsrooms throughout the state,? said Bernard Cherkasov, CEO of Equality Illinois.??He will help carry our advocacy for LGBT equality to all media in print and broadcasting, on the Internet and through social media. We are pleased that he is coming out of retirement for this important mission.?

Locin worked as a political reporter for the Tribune for over 34 years, where he covered state government in Chicago and Springfield. In Washington D.C. he covered Congress and Illinois issues, and was later named as a White House correspondent during the Clinton administration.

?He brings with him a wealth of experience covering politics on the local, state and national levels and then taking a career turn to helping the Tribune navigate through the evolving world of electronic media,? read the release.

More details to come.?
