With a history rich in African American legacy, Philadelphia has a plethora of events to celebrate Black History Month. Here are some of the best that Philadelphia has to offer:

  • At the University of Pennsylvania?s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology there is an exhibition and community engagement project called Imagine Africa with the Penn Museum. Specifically during Black History month, Imagine Africa Community is an exhibit with traditional and modern music, dance, and storytelling. Also, Voices of Africa showcases African and African-American songs, gospel and percussive rhythms.
  • Every weekend during February, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will have workshops with no admission costs. There are different opportunities to learn and explore African-American history, including the opportunity to learn about?family roots.
  • Arden Theatre Company presents Clybourne Park, a play that illustrates gentrification is not a matter of black or white.
  • The Kimmel Center is highlighting the African-American experience through music. Black Journey?is
a musical performance that teaches about tradition through musical experience.
  • The Free Library of Philadelphia is celebrating Black History Month by highlighting important Africans & African Americans in history and offering free events that include crafts, movies, storytime, and much more.
  • Throughout the month of February, at the National Constitution Center, you will be able to look at the lives of extraordinary African-Americans like Jackie Robinson, Bessie Coleman, and others.
