Motorcycle exhausts play a very major role in the performance of a bike. The gases are routed into tubes and flow down into the catalytic chamber. In the catalytic chamber, there is a catalyst that helps some chemical reactions to take place.
The gases are turned into less harmful gases and then released into the exhaust pipe which emits them out. The reason they are turned into less harmful gases is so that they do not eat out the walls of the exhaust pipe.
Other gases like formed in the catalytic chamber are carbon dioxide which then flows into the muffler. While in the muffler, the gas helps in the reduction of the sound given out by the bike. This is the major reason why a muffler is fitted; reduction of the exhaust noise.
Decorative function
With the evolving technology, motorcycle exhaust manufacturers have come up with various designs and specifications of exhaust pipes. There are single, dual or even 4-tubed exhaust pipes today. As much as they are designed in these different ways to enhance the performance of the bike, they are also designed in this way to add elegance to your motorcycle. Just as different motorcycles are made in different designs, so are the exhaust pipes so that they can match the design of your bike. This will give it an elegant and attractive appearance. Alertness Function
Motorcycle exhausts give out sound as one rides on the road. This alerts other motorists on the road that there is another rider coming their way. This also makes motorbikes more noticeable while on the road than cars.
Some motorcycles will make more noise than others. This is as a result of the muffler. The muffler helps regulate the amount of noise given off by the bike. Some people argue that this is the reason why motorcycles are less prone to accidents than cars; Motorists can tell from afar that there is a bike approaching.
All the above functions, the decorative, the alertness and the gas emission functions are important considerations whenever you are buying an exhaust pipe for your bike.
