Plastic Surgery Before the Wedding?Things to Consider

Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, Plastic Surgery Blogs Comments (0)

In reality tv shows, plastic surgery seems like an easy procedure as they show women having some nip and tuck shortly before their wedding day?or at least the way it is depicted in the programs.

However, renowned surgeon Dr. Tarick Smaili said that plastic surgery should always be treated as a major operation because it involves some potential risks and prolonged recovery.

The problem with some brides opting for surgeries such as breast augmentation, liposuction, and nose job is that they have ?weak? goals.

The ideal candidates for cosmetic plastic surgery, according to Dr. Smaili, should have realistic goals and expectations and at the same time have a ?strong conviction? that they really want the procedure, which is often permanent, if not long lasting.

For this reason, many [conservative] plastic surgeons discourage patients to have cosmetic procedures if they are experiencing a major life event.

However, some women view their wedding day as the start of their new life and their plastic surgery serves like some form of symbolism.? While there is nothing wrong with this view, they should plan way ahead and have the procedure at least six months before their special day.

Anecdotal reports show that some brides ask for breast augmentation or liposuction just a few weeks before their wedding day, without realizing that body contouring surgeries typically involved prolonged downtime, and it would take weeks or even months before they can see the final result because of the residual swelling.

For instance, swelling after breast augmentation takes two to three months to subside.? Meanwhile, it will take longer for the implants to settle down a bit and look natural, usually between six months and one year.

And for the brides considering facial plastic surgeries such as nose job and facelift, they have to consider that the procedures typically involve longer recovery and more post-op swelling, bruising and other symptoms.

To enjoy great results, patients should never rush their recovery and limit physical activities; however, this may not be possible if their wedding day is fast approaching.? Stress alone is enough to compromise one?s healing.

Dr. Smaili always reminds his patients that the right time to have surgery is ?when they have the luxury of time to enjoy uninterrupted recovery.?
