Introduction

Our client are looking for an experienced simulation CAE engineer to work on transmission projects from the midlands.

The Job

Core Requirements -

  • Degree qualified (Control/Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automotive )
  • Maintaining and developing strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience of modelling & simulating automotive powertrain systems with respect to system performance, dynamics & control and/or fuel economy simulations
  • Experience of deriving governing equations for components and systems from first principles
  • Proficient user of Matlab/Simulink software
  • Experience of AVL Cruise, AMEsim, Dymola would be desirable

Main Activities/tasks:

  • Take the lead in forming the shape of the CAE team to support current and future driveline programmes
  • Develop and execute models of geartrain and hydraulic systems to develop and improve powertrain concepts.
  • Use simulation and analysis techniques to model behaviour from component level up
  • Support the technical assessment of current and future hybrid powertrain technologies
  • Analyse and correlate simulation data from test measurements
  • Recommend and specify design changes in order to optimise the design
  • Use of AVL Cruise for vehicle level performance prediction studies
  • Be able to prepare and present findings for project status reviews
  • Be able to work with cross functional teams to help support and innovate new designs
  • Mechanical Design: Development of detailed component models such as friction clutches , synchronizers, park pawl, gears, bearings to optimise design parameters and predict functional performance where appropriate
  • Hydraulic design: Development of hydraulic subsystem models in AMESim or Simulink to predict response and performance
  • Control System Design: Development of mechanical and hydraulic subsystem models suitable for model-in-the-loop simulation to test control software
